Fabric manipulations

Phase III : Material developments

This collection embodies fluidity and vivid colors, infusing a playful and joyous mood into each piece. I personally adore experimenting with colors, as they add a bolder expression to my emotions. These hues convey fluidity, freshness, and joy, illuminating the collection in the same way I envision my alter ego.

The primary fabrics used are plain weave cotton and silk organza, each chosen for their unique qualities.

Types of textile manipulations:

Hand Painting: I hand-painted these fabrics with simple brushes, drawing inspiration from the fluid blend of colors. Using Creatoutiss Fusant fabric paints, which are ideal for organic fabrics, I created prints and textures that reflect the fluidity central to this collection.

Dyeing: I hand-dyed a few pieces using Teinture Textile dyes, which work beautifully on pure cotton fabrics. The unique texture of the cotton absorbed the dyes, resulting in delightful patterns.

Pleating and Volumes: Inspired by the traditional dress aesthetics of Nepalese women and men in Kathmandu,  especially, from the older days, I incorporated pleats to add playfulness and enhance the fabric’s movement when worn. Some patterns are twisted and tied tightly, and after some time, crushed textures are created to produce wrinkled and voluminous effects. Volumes were strategically added to create free-spirited silhouettes with a contemporary touch, echoing the essence of the collection.
